Sin and comedy collide at Las Vegas’ newest show — “Sin City Comedy!”

“Sin City Comedy” opens at the V Theater May 15, 2009

For Immediate Release: 2009 (LAS VEGAS) — Putting the sin back into Sin City, “Sin City Comedy” is at the V Theater with performances nightly at 9 p.m. This comedy show that contains a touch of burlesque will feature nationally known headliner comedians as seen on HBO, Showtime, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Emmy Award-winning writer and comedian John Padon is the producer of “Sin City Comedy” after headlining around the world and anchoring numerous Las Vegas productions including “X” and “The History of Sex.” “It’s time to tear down that ubiquitous ‘brick wall,’ shake things up and bring comedy and sin back together like they used to and should be,” Padon says of the new show. “This is going to be one hell of an entertaining show. There won’t be any French people doing flips, mind you, but we’re not gonna kick you in the wallet either. Now that’s a stimulus package.”

“Sin City Comedy” targets the millions of Las Vegas visitors each year who are looking for solid entertainment for a reasonable ticket price. “Sin City Comedy” also focuses on local Las Vegans, who will always enjoy 2 for 1 tickets as well as other special nights and promotions with local radio and print media.

Putting the “sin back in”

Burlesque has had a hand in comedy since its beginnings in the 1840s when scantily clad ladies regaled audiences with bawdy jokes. “Sin City Comedy” returns audiences to that glamorous era of show biz but with a contemporary twist with two burlesque girls who sing, dance and perform stunning aerials over the audience. “Since this town is being overrun by Cirque shows, apparently people like to see beautiful girls doing flips. We don’t argue; we entertain, and for a third the price, leaving you plenty of money to sin some more after the show,” Padon says. “And you don’t have to get permission from Obama or your mama! Now that will definitely bring a stimulus to your package!” “Since this town is being overrun by Cirque shows, apparently people like to see beautiful girls doing flips. “Remember, what happens in Vegas keeps O.J. here for life!” Padon says.

The Seattle International StandUp Comedy Competition has announced a winner: lawyer-turned comedian Tommy Savitt took home the grand prize of $5,000 and a recording contract with national comedy label Uproar Entertainment. Savitt beat out four other comics in last week’s finals, which culminated Sunday night at Comedy Underground.

The Brooklyn native will be making a “victory tour” in the area, performing Friday and Saturday at the Laughs Comedy Spot in Kirkland; Dec. 11-13 at Comedy Underground in Seattle’s Pioneer Square; and New Year’s Eve at the Historic Everett Theatre.

Second prize for the 2008 competition went to Olympia resident Nate Jackson, a graduate of Eastern Washington University, who received a prize of $2,000. And, third prize went to Preston, Idaho, comedian Todd Johnson, who won $1,500.

This was the 29th year of the comedy competition, sponsored by Comedy Underground. Former winners and finalists include the one-name-only Marcus (who went on to NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” this summer), Patton Oswalt (”Ratatouille”) and the late Mitch Hedberg.
